Race Reports
National Recap, Holiday farm, and Hodges Dam

ImageDue to the construction on the Bikeman web page I have been holding off from posting race reports. I see that there have been some changes, including one on my profile, I seem to have gone from 1000 hits to a hundred and back to sport! Doh. Anyways, there have been quite a few things going on in the race scene since my last report.

First off I have decided that moving up to semi pro can wait for a while. I think I could use another year or two of racing in expert, no need to jump to the back of the pack right away! So I did a few races since I caught everyone up on my history in my “mid-Season Recap.” I raced at the Nationals at Windham, Mount Snow, then Holiday Farm, and today at Hodges Dam.

Windham was fun. Me and Kyla stayed at a really weird place the smelled like an old suitcase called the Rose Motel (I wouldn’t recommend it). I liked the course it was a lot of climbing (what I well on) and a lot of switch back descending, not too technical. I had a good race, went out too hard, had a good lead and lost it. I dropped to 5th and managed to hold onto it. I wanted to attack on some of the climbs but I didn’t have the legs to and watched 4th ride off. Then spent the 4th lap praying that 6th place was a couple minutes behind me. He was, so I got on the podium. I was pumped.

ImageI had big expectations for Mount Snow after taking 3rd at the Kenda Klassic, things didn’t go my way. I had a rough day. I was last into the first climb and was loosing a lot of time on the descents (not my style). I hated the new course, I was tired and had no legs, I caught a few but finished in 9th after loosing my chain on a descent. I was a little bummed because I didn’t get beat by guys I had never meet but guys I had been racing for a while. But those guys were riding well that day. Congratulations to Randall Jacobs for taking the title, Randy is a class act and a great racer so I was glad to see him win.

I had a week off from racing after Snow and decided to do a local crit, it sucked, I DNFed.

Now I was off to Holiday Farm. It was a good race, the course was long, there was a lot of technical stuff, and the weather was nice. I went out with the leaders and felt good for a while but after a lap I was spent (a common theme recently), I lost all kinds of time on the second and third lap. I wasn’t having much fun. I finished the race in 7th after loosing a couple spots each lap, bummer.

ImageToday I did Hodges Dam. It was nice out and the course was flat and fast, bummer. Anyone who has read my race reports (and if you have you may be the only one) knows that I hate flat courses. So I held my own on the first lap, was in first a one point, rode with Andrew, Noah, and Ben Corbalis. Noah over shifted or something so knowing he was a really strong rider we attacked, that kid is strong, he came back out of nowhere and passes us. Andrew went with him, I dropped off, Ben passed me and was riding really well, I couldn’t hold on. I was in no mans land for the rest of the race. I took 5th, there was some other rider in there who came up with Noah I didn’t know. Andrew won, the unknown took 2nd, Noah 3rd, Ben 4th and I took 5th. I think I haven’t seen official results, so if I am wrong I apologize.

Scott Feltmate had a great race and took second in the pro/semi-pro race, his first race as a semi pro. Congrats.

ImageSo that’s about it. I bought a new BMC road frame and have been loving it so here is a photo.  Next week is a race in New Hampshire so let’s hope for some hills!

See you at the races…

Sean
