Rim Nordic Race Series #2 Running Springs, CA July 13, 2008
I knew Russ was serious when the departure was set at 5:00 a.m. We had a three vehicle convoy heading due East. Running Springs is becoming our favorite mountain destination. Another car or two joined our canopy and Lunch-Fest. Our group sported five riders. We podiumed three.
It was a rare July weekend. Saturday's evening slight thunderstorm activity was observed in the distance. Upon arrival to register the ground was noticeably damp. The ever so slight cloud cover kept the temperatures down.
The course was tacky and fast. With a lite crowd, no dust, and plenty of room to maneuver the ride turned into a grin-fest. The 7,000 foot elevation was the great equalizer.
Afterwards the lunch was great, the company relaxed and the little plastic medal priceless. Thankfully, the Salsa Dos Niner was perfect. The Sram drive-line performed flawlessly.
