'Cross In The Glen Cyclocross Series Great Glen Trails Outdoor Center Gorham, NH October 21, 2008
After having done a bunch of races were there were 100 to 120 guys at the start and having biffed on the tar at Sucker Brook, I felt I was up for a low key cyclocross race. I decided to do the 1st race of a 5 race series at Great Glen Outdoor Center.
The center is at the base of the auto road going up to Mt. Washington. It was a perfect fall day, sunny but chilly with foliage slightly past it's peek. When I arrived at the center, 30 minutes before the first race, there was frost on the grass.
During the week 3 other members said they would be there, but I only saw Bill Turner. The course was a fairly typical cross course with a combination of grass, tar, dirt road and a tunnel. It was a relatively fast course with no place to recover on.
With the temperature being what it was, the Greyhound Juice Original Formula was a preferred choice. And as always, I needed to keep the boys happy with the Greyhound Juice anti-friction cream (THE BEST!) My asthma kicked in very early due to a faulty inhaler. I got in 4 of 8 laps and pulled the plug. Even though I ended up with a DNF, I will definitely go back. If your looking for a low key event, I would highly recommend this series. After all what other cross race has a tunnel in it?!?
