SoCal Cross Prestige Series #1
C-X-C Unification Kickoff Race
San Dimas, CA
Saturday, September 19, 2009

ImageUnification weekend, September 19-20, 2009 at Frank G. Bonelli Regional Park, San Dimas, CA. Saturday was all Cross and Sunday the Super D and Cross Country U.S. MTB Finale. It was just more than I could stand. So I registered for the Single Speed CX 3/4. First race following the future leaders of our sport. The 10 year old up thru and including those of voting age.

ImageThe Men CX 4 were only a minute behind and it did not take long for the sand baggers to catch the one gear I was pushing. I did have to briefly explain to the lead rider as he attempted to pass in a narrow root bound chicane that he could time his passing for a more opportune moment as he stalled on a root and dabbed his foot and crossed himself up in the narrow chute. He then began mashing gears and grunting up a loose rise to understand the meaning of my statement.

ImageO.K. the remainder of the first lap was uneventful. I counted three laps before the lucky one crossed the line. It was then a dash back to my car for a bike change and drink. I found the start line and settled in with the Masters Men 55+.

ImageA little larger crowd than most of last year. I was happy to have a few to pick off in the next four laps of racing. Only two bobbles, a couple of raspberry's and I was happy my back-to-back races were over. The saved from the recycling bin frame built out nicely as a single speed and the Salsa Chili con Crosso was clean and polished. This was my first ride on the Challenge Grifo XS black with White Tread Clinchers. I may just throw away all of my vulcanized tires.
