Wow, it’s been a while, since Star Crossed actually back on 9/20…work has been brutal, so I haven’t had much time on the bike. Well, I’ll quit complaining now and get to the report.
Great fall day, sunny, windy and after 2 days of rain, made the course quick! Started on the 2nd row, and had a great start. Out of the first corner, I was in 2nd place when behind me I heard the dreadful noise of carbon and metal hitting pavement…yep big wreck. 8 of us got away w/me and a guy from Starbucks way out in front, very odd situation for me as I’ve never been that far ahead in a race before (best result previously was an 11th).
For two laps the two of us were out in front w/no one in site and then on lap 3 a couple guys got around me, but I kept them in site, Glover, nice ride buddy, stellar 2nd place. On the last lap, I was determined to try and make the podium, but could only catch one guy and ended up 4th, best cross result I’ve ever had….so all in all a great day in the Seattle area. I also took a picture to prove it! (attached)
Want to thank Matt Hill for all his training tips and coaching, it has been a great asset in my recovering and I have a new appreciation for the trainer. Also thanks to the MFG crew for securing a race event when the permit was pulled on Wednesday (Terry, Rich and Zac, much appreciated and job well done!)
And for the sponsors, I got say, the Chili Con Crosso is one mean machine. I’ve never had a bike give me so much out of a dead stop than this thing and the Alpha Q fork soaks up the bumps like no other. The new Avid Shorty 6 breaks stop a ton better than the previous versions and the pad life is exceptional. Thanks guys!
Until next time…
Joel
