Team Rider: Alyssa Gagnon
Alyssa Gagnon: Mountain Bike

2009 RACING AGE: 35

RESIDENCE: South Portland, ME

WHERE I GO MONDAY MORNING: Depends on which Monday...I am a freelance sign language interpreter and work all over southern Maine. During the summer, I mix-it-up by leading cycling tours along the coast of our beautiful state with Summer Feet Cycling Tours.

RACING DISCIPLINE(S) AND CATEGORY(S): Expert Mountain Bike

# OF YEARS RACING: First race was in 1999. Since then I have been racing on and off.

# OF BIKES OWNED: Currently, I have six bikes: Salsa Moto Rapido, Salsa Caballero (in respite while I play w the new Moto), Lemond Tourmalet, GT Avalanche (turned rigid single speed), an old Trek 7000 race bike turned commuter, and my summer delight: the Trek Drift Cruiser – Yummy!

FAVORITE BIKE: All of the above, they serve me well for their intended purpose.

FAVORITE TRAIL OR RIDE: I don't care where I ride as long as it is dry, warm, sunny, and technical!

NON-CYCLING INTERESTS/HOBBIES: Hmmm, I love being outside-backpacking and skiing, enjoy great food and local brews, and of course sharing all of this with good company. But most of all I love international travel.

PERSONAL NOTES & QUOTES: Last year was a year to simply have fun on my cruiser and road bike. I covered the coast of Maine on bike, exploring islands and inlets from June till October all the while getting paid, staying fit, and eating at 4star restaurants. This year I hope to add racing back into the mix. The last full year I raced (2006) was incredible, and tough to beat. I competed and won a 24hour race with three of my female teammates, finished top overall female in the New England Eastern Fat Tire Association series, and simply raced my heart out. That will be a tough act to follow! So this year, I plan to just stretch out the legs, have some fun, and complete the Maine Mountain Bike series…Check back for more details, Cheers!

Trek Across Maine
written by Kevin Thomas, July 02, 2009
A bunch of us middled aged men had the pleasure of riding with Alyssa "the Hammazon" and Paul "the Pull" during this year's trek. They helped us to keep laughing even while riding through the pouring rain. Thanks you guys!
