This light is very as bright advertized, including from the sides. As with most cat-eye products the mounting hardware is well designed and versitile. I keep the clamp fixed to my commuter/town bike, where the light gets most of its use. I use the clip when I am on one of my racing bikes so I can clip it to a jersey pocket.
Drawbacks are it is a bit on the bulky side (but I don't think you could have something this bright be any smaller). To turn it off you have to scroll through many modes, or hold both buttons for several seconds, which I find annoying in the winter with gloved hands. Also, the rear facing lights are very directional, so you don't get optimum brightness if you have it clipped to a pack and it is pointing slightly up or down.
