So far this week's training has been pretty low key. Monday I did a 1 hour trainer spin watching a tape of last Sunday's Tour of Flanders to keep the legs loose. Tonight brought more time on the trainer, since the Pittsburgh weather thinks it's February instead of April.
I did one hour of threshold intervals done it what I call Stair Steps (1 ON/1 OFF, 2/1, 3/1, etc., etc.,) I threw in a couple out-of-the saddle "climbs" to let butt and friends get some air time and then finished with a cool down spin and some light dumbbell and core work.
I don't mind the trainer as long as I have my iPod and some good cycling tapes to watch. Plus it's easier for me to stay focused on intervals on the trainer. I like to save outside rides for long endurance and race specific training. Who wants to think of intervals cruising through the woods?
I am trying to get more focused on longer high intensity intervals since the Mid Atlantic Super Series 6 Hour Enduro races are on my schedule this year. These are shorter 6 hour races so the pace is going to most likely be a bit higher than what I'm used to. So if I plan on hanging at all I gotta do some work now and get the legs used to the burn. If you're interested in the M.A.S.S. series here's the link: http://www.masuperseries.com/index.htm
If you're in to the longer races I recommend checking out the new National MTB Ultra Endurance Series. This is a National Series of six 100 mile races. I plan on hitting the Mohican 100 in Ohio and the Wilderness 101 in State College, PA. I did the last year and my report can be found HERE. For more information on these races check out the Cycling News article or the event web site at http://www.ultramtb.com/
Hope to get out 2+ hours on the Dos Niner tomorrow and see what it can do. VERY excited about that.
Hope you all are getting some miles in and that it's spring where you are.
Later.
Jason
