Watch your head!
You might run into that 1955 Elgin Bluebird hanging from the rafters. Yes, it's true. The boss never throws anything away. It just magically vanishes from the shop and ends up here. If you've given up hope of finding that low gear pawl for a Hercules three speed, drop Davis an email davis@bikeman.com. If we can't find it for you, well, uh, we can't find it for you.

Bikeman's Museum

Bikeman's Museum
Tange Big Super Fork, Circa 1991
On display in Bikeman's Museum is used Boulder Cycles Defiant.  A full suspension frame that has stood the test of time.  The Defiant was originally called the Gazelle and has not changed it's basic design since the early 90's.  We dare you to try to find another bike with that claim to fame.

The Defiant is constructed of TrueTemper steel (also available in titanium).  It looks more like a soft tail frame but does offer a fair amount of travel, 3 Inches to be exact.  The rear suspension on our bike is a Risse Racing Air shock.  Other models where availabe with an internal coil/oil suspension unit.  Not a point and shoot FS bike but a rider with some handling skills will greatly benefit from the suspension.

True to the era, Bikeman's Defiant is equipped with Shimano Deore XT 7-spd components with a Suntour XC Pro crank thrown in for good meausre.  Another sign of the times is the radically short Answer Hyperlite handlebar.  Remember when we used to cut them down thinking a shorter bar would handle quicker and help you avoid hitting trees.   John Tomac edition ODI Attack grips round out the steering assembly.

The front suspension duties are handled by a Specialized FS (Future Shock).  A Rock Shox MAG 10 internal with Specialized designed lower legs.  Keeping the bike rolling are Shimano XT hubs laced to Araya rims with Ritchey Z-Max skinwall rubber keepin it on the trail.

A very cool ride from 15 years ago that stood the test of time.  The bike is in excellent condition both functionally and cosmetically and you have to love the headbadge.  A true classic.   I tried to call Boulder Bikes and see if we could pick their brains a bit but now answer.  Their website is still up but we aren't sure if the company is still alive.  If anyone has more info on this bike or Boulder Bikes drop me a line.
