 Cool Bikes & Cool Links on a Hot Summer Day:
The internet is a great thing. Where else can we spend hours looking at old school MTB parts and builds all the while dreaming of our next project. It is still nice to thumb through a few old MBA's or maybe the Pedal Pusher Catalog (BikePro) but for a quick 10 minute fix there is no better place than the internet. Inside we have a few cool links you may not have know about (old school cyclocross links), a vintage customer bike, and the random Attic Pic of the week...

We will be starting a links section on the site devoted to Old School mountain bikes but here are a few interesting ones to get you started:
www.oldschoolmountainbikes.com : This is one of my favorites. Most can't understand my love of older Ritchey bicycles but if you do you will love this site. Devoted to Ritchey's with some cool bike posts, serial number archives, old catalogs and info on the man himself, Tom Ritchey.
www.kona.dk : This site blew me away. Someone has taken the time to index every Kona bike made since 1990 with images and specs... WOW. If you like or have had a Kona in the past you have to check this out.
1921 How-To Cyclocross Article : A look at old school cyclocross. I'm talking really old school (1921). Included in the article are some neat pictures, advice on crossing through a thicket and how to cross a ditch. If you ride cyclocross now you will not believe this page.

Another follow up to our Boulder Defiant posting in Bikeman's Musem was sent in earlier this week. The owner of the bike, Mike, worked with Rich Williams before Rich moved to Boulder CO and started his bicycle company. Mike invested some money in the new company and remained in touch with Rich, eventually ending up with the bicycle shown here. Mike believes this to be the bicycle used for the catalog / poster photo shoots. The bike is in excellent condition with almost entirely original parts.  | | click to enlarge |
The only thing Mike changed, and now wished he hadn't, was the brake system. Mike also explained why the name had switched from Gazelle to Defiant. It seems another company had the rights to the Gazelle name forcing the change. A very cool bike especially with the custom painted Rock Shox RS-1 fork and a nice mix of Suntour XC Pro, Shimano Deore XT, Chris King and Ringle components. Check out the poster below. Quite the marketing but I don't think that image (no helmet - aerobic shoes) would fly today...
  
 
RANDOM ATTIC PIC:
Not everything we find in the Attic is a cool old mtb or classic road part. We have stuff from every era in both excellent and fair condition. Take this pile of rims for instance. I'm sure there is some cool stuff here for the right person. You never know what you will find in Bikeman's Attic. |
