Mountain Goat Bar / Stem Combo, Circa 1984?
On display in Bikeman's Museum is a new bar and stem combination produced by Mountain Goat Cycles.  Handlebar and Stem combos where very popular "back in the day".  This one was hand made by Jeff Lindsay, founder of Mountain Goat Cycles and member of the Mountain Bike Hall of Fame, around 1984 or 85.

One of the original mountain bike pioneers, W. J. Lindsay's bicycles where works of art.  This particular bar has a 1" quill and an exagerated sweep that was popular at the time.  A true hand made piece of history.  Looking at the bar you begin to remember the laid back geometry and headtube angle the early mountain bikes had.  For his work and contributions to mountain biking Jeff Lindsay was inducted into the Mountain Bike Hall of Fame in 1989.  In the late 90's as large corporations began gobbling up the Klein, Bontrager, Fisher and Salsa's of the industry Jeff went back to his other trade, glass work, with his own company Cutting Edge Products

For more information on Jeff Lindsay or Mountian Goat Cycles you can visit First Flight Bikes.  They have an very good history of Mountain Goat.  Interestingly Jeff Archer of First Flight Bikes has recently reintroduced the Mountain Goat Bicycles with many of the same model names for a limited run this year.  Now word on how long they will be available but they look to be of the same quality as the originals.

Very cool item. If anyone is interested or has a great project this item would help with give us a call.  The stem / bar combo is brand new and has never been installed.  It has some scuffs from bumping around the shop for the last 20 years but looks outstanding!
