On the Road Again |

I see a lot of things on the side of the road. Some are not so surprising, like dead animals or McDonald's bags with squished ketchup packets, yet others border on bizarre, like a full gallon of milk or a pair of pants. I like to come up with scenarios as to how these objects fond their way to the side of the road--like the gallon of milk for example.
Something like that has to be placed, not thrown out a window because that would explode all over the place if tossed out of a moving vehicle. So with that said, my guess is that someone wanted a bowl of cereal and just couldn't wait until they got home. Perhaps something interrupted them--was it a cop? No, it's certainly not illegal to munch on Honey Bunches of Oats on the side of Route 9. But who the hell carries a bowl and spoon in the car?? It could've been a screaming kid in the back of the car who wanted something out of the groceries in the trunk and the milk was in the way so the person just placed the milk to the side of the road and took off without putting it back in the trunk. The pants are another story--perhaps the zipper failed for the last time and the owner just said "get the frig outa here." Or perhaps a bee crawled up them and they had to come off in a hurry--you got me.
Here are some other items I have seen:
Animals: Squirrels--gray, red, chipmunks Turtles-snapper and painted (saved one just the other day from tire splat) Possum Raccoon Porcupine Cat Seaguls--seem to be the dumbest bird--perhaps the most greedy because they seem to be hit the most
Other interesting items: Action figures Sunglasses Cell phone Dentures!! (Gramps had to stick his head out the window again) Socks Shoes Watch Tools (many of these) Bungee cords Money
So, aside from the occasional turtle and a $5 bill, I rarely stop to pick any of these things up. But it sure makes for an interesting distraction in bad weather to keep your eyes out for stuff on the road and come up with some kind of story as to how it got there. Safe riding!
