Eastern Cup NECS #5 Catamount Outdoor Center, Williston, VT
Having your summers off means you can race alot... but alot of racing is taking its toll on the psyche... my 5th race in 6 weeks, OUCH!!! But the legs are good, I am just trying to enjoy the traveling and racing cool courses... The Eastern Cup was one of the top race courses so far this year. My preride was dry and fast, too fast... but rain the night before made the course a more technical super fast good time.
At the start I was ready for a nap, it was drizzling, and my hear rate was like 60bpm... don't ask me how, but I managed to not implode after my signature blast off into the lead of 40 guys... Ben Moody and 3 other pros blew by me and I made a sad attempt to get on their wheel... they were sprinting for like a whole mile!!! The legs were OK, I pegged it for the whole 30km course and finished strong in a sprint for 6th place.... Great race but 6th place brings me to a sad slightly negative point in my EFTA XC career...
All my efforts mean a lot to me, but they seem to be worth less when I am missing the podium in the "EXPERT" category because I am racing some mutant gifted "PROS"... I am all for the competition, but on Sunday I would have been 2nd or 3rd had the pros raced their own category. And in any other age group with the pros I would have been on the podium... I am just unforturnate to be 32... At almost every EFTA race there are enough pros to make a separate category and have a competitive field. If I were a pro would I want to race against my kind? Probably! I spoke with EFTA man and will email them persuasively... but, if there are no changes next year, I will find myself skipping all the EFTA series races and doing the Root 66 races instead! So far this year I have raced all the EFTA series races, and it is a lot of fun... BUT...
Anyone else feel this way? Let EFTA know... send an email to:
