Old - New School
Magura HS33 Rim Brakes: Same as it ever was, with some noticeable modifications. The Magura HS33 has been around for over a decade and is still Magura's best selling BRAKE in Europe. Since it's beginnings some 12 years ago the brakes have remained virtually unchanged. What we liked about the brakes back in the day are the same things that have brought us back to them in 2006. Magura says it best: "Indestructible, legendarily reliable. The best rim brake on the market." While this is definitely an Old School item it has undergone a New School facelift.

The most obvious change to the brakes are the Slimline brake levers. The levers feature a 14mm master piston for incredible stopping power and a new integrated pad adjustment dial. The pad adjustment dial, or TPA (Turbo Pad Adjuster) as Magura calls it, has been a part of the brakes for years. Previous version had an adjustment dial on the outside of the lever blade. As you can imagine the first time to biff a tree or face plant into the trail it is curtains for your adjustment dial. The new dial is neatly tucked into the blade and safe from the external forces.
 The other new feature is the EVO2 Mounting Plate taking the place of the Evolution Mounting tabs on the older brakes. A nifty idea as it looks like this will very simply keep the brakes centered to the rim, often a troublesome part of the setup for newbies. Don't count on this mount to provide much in the way of brake flex / support. You will still want to run a booster if you are worried about flex in your frame.
 The calipers, the QR mount and the hose fittings all remain unchanged from the old school brakes. The new brakes come with cable guides that appear to be Problem Solver knock-offs or their shrink-wrapped cable guide that looks like it might be interesting to setup. Giant ATX 990 TEAM:
The ATX 990 TEAM was designed as a cross country / downhill bike for none other than John Tomac. The bike made it to full production in 1995 with 3 versions available. Recently we uncovered a primo ATX 990 TEAM frame in virtually new condition. It appears to have been built at one time but shows no signs of being ridden. The frame includes 2 rear shocks, the Noleen coil / oil damped shock that is currently on the bike and a Risse Racing air shock that has not been installed. No disc mounts on this frame, but there is an cool little cable holder attached to the swing arm to hold your canti brake cable. Back in the day the Giant ATX was believed to be far ahead of its time and it probably was. However the lack of bearings on the pivots and short amount of travel make this quite outdated by current standards. If you are looking for a cool old school dually this may be for you.
