Gasping Gobbler 5K 2011

Team Bikeman - Race Reports

I know you wouldn't expect to see a running race report on this website, but as a team member I wanted to let people know Bikeman has a full line of running clothes and footwear.

Herb Taylor

Four weeks prior to the race, my daughter and I decided to do the Gasping Gobbler 5k on Thanksgiving morning. I saw it as a great off season training tool.Much to our surprise, on Wednesday Nov 23, we got an unexpected snowstorm, dropping 12+ inches of snow the in Augusta area. Wasn't really looking much like running weather. Thanksgiving morning we woke to 19 degrees and brilliant sunshine. I knew with that kind of weather I would need some motivation to get me going. 330 people had registered and with that size crowd on the starting line, you knew it was a mullet.(And you know what a mullet is... Business in the front, Party in the back!) We were settled somewhere in the middle. This course was relatively flat, temperature at the start of the race 25 -27 degrees, with no wind. When the gun went off , it took about a minute to get to the starting line. It was a bit of a bottle-neck. After the first half mile, it did spread out. The serious runners were well on their way, while the not so seasoned runners were filling in the gap. Road conditions were either very wet or snow/ice covered. Had a great race and great time. Fun way to start the Thanksgiving Day! Hopefully this will be an annual event on our part.

Thanks to Bikeman.com and Soigneur. This stuff is amazing!
