Let me collect myself. Ok, I'm alright.
As I surveyed the single-speed start group, I immediately began my normal process of sizing up and mentally eliminating the competition, one-by-one. Everyone looked awfully fit, but to my surprise there was one female in the SS field, a first for me. "Whew, at least I won't come in last", I thought. Of course I checked her off the list of threats right away - HUGE MISTAKE! Dang, she is one tough lady. Ok, I promise not to be so chauvinistic in the future. Mmm, I love humble pie! Googling her name later, when I got home, put my mind at ease. Without going into it; let's just say she has a very, very impressive resume. I was actually proud that I hung with her for the first half of the 25 mile race. Anyhow, at the end of the day I was quite happy with a 6th place finish in a very tough SS category. Cory, meanwhile, was demonstrating some very solid early season form with a great 6th place finish in the 40+ sport group.
