For the first time ever big time cyclocross makes it to Wisconsin thanks in part to Madison, WI based Planet Bike who is Jonathan Page’s new sponsor for 2008-2009. These were also the first two races of the Wisconsin Cycling Association ‘cross series.

Make the best of work in Italy...

So it happens again (work!) My company sent me to Italy for a week long installation just as cyclocross season was getting started. I did a couple early season races and also a Wednesday night cyclocross training race in Wrentham Mass (all in one week) before going to Europe for the next week. The idea was to hammer myself and then use the Europe week as a rest. Nice idea, but overseas work travel never seems to end up being “restful”. I didn’t bring my Ritchey break-away bike but, I did end up getting in some cycling after all. Oh…and the Tuscan food isn’t too shabby either.

Nittany Lion Cross UCI-C2
Fogelsville, PA
9/20/2008

In anticipation of my first CX race of the season, I burned a vacation day on Thursday to breakdown and rebuild Major Jake. Stripped off the scavenged parts I used to hastily birth the Major two years ago and bolted on a crispy clean SRAM Force/Red drivetrain, a set of suprisingly powerful Tektro cantis (killer value!), some handlebars that actually fit, and some super fast vittoria tires. Took all day (with a break for Thursday night Belmont Plateau mtb action), but finally got it all strung up just after midnight.
