Attic What IZIT #3

by Bikeman • June 21, 2023

We had a lot of fun with the Attic What IZIT back in the day. We'd dig up some of the more obscure parts hiding here and put it out to our loyal visitors to come up with what it is. Bikeman would always know of course but it was entertaining to see how long it would take for someone else to come up with the correct answer. We would post the answer so the winner could take a victory lap. In the event of multiple correct answers we would post the most complete or creative one. We'll try to dust one of these off each week and keep the excitement going of what will pop up next.

Since the last one proved to be to tough we have given you an easy one here. Should be straight forward. We are looking for the name of the part (Manufacturer & Product Name), and what it was used for. Bonus point for intimate knowledge of the pros and cons with this item or a picture of your bike with this item on it.

The verdict is in and a winner has been selected. Bikeman received a fair number of responses on this one but Cecil Lee from Vancouver, BC had the best response. Cecil gave us all the pertinent information plus shared with us his personal experience with the lever, and some bonus points for riding a Ritchey. Here is his answer.

"This was a part I believe was called Dr Dew brake lever extensions. They were intended to bolt onto the end of a brake lever (old school long length levers) and allow braking while riding on bar ends. I had a set mounted to older long levered xt brake levers (cantilever compatible). They were useful but I removed to simplify my bike, at the time a Ritchey Descent."
