Name That TOOL #6

by Bikeman • July 21, 2023

This was as much fun as the Attic What IZIT used to be back in the early days of the internet. Being an ol' fashioned bike shop since the 70's, we've seen a lot of technology and "standards" come and go. As a result we have a lot of mostly outdated tools around the shop. For this contest we'd dig out an old tool and put it out to our visitors to identify. Much like we are posting reruns of the What IZIT we'll try to dust off one of these gems every week or so for a walk down memory lane.

Time to name that TOOL. A tool that we sell right here on Bikeman.com. This one might not be as easy as you first think. We are looking for the tool Manufacturer as well as functionality. Creativity always breaks a tie and a story of personal experience with the tool could win you the prize.

A winner has been crowned. A tight race indeed. This one was almost to close to call but in the end there has to be a winner.

WINNER - Bill Nonnemacher

Another in a long line of Nitto niftyness. It's used to spread your stem clamp to remove your handlebars without scratching them. If you bite your fingernails, you will need one of these for those pesky pop top beer cans.

RUNNER UP - Jake Morton

That's a Nitto stem spreader. You use it to open up the pre-removeable face plate type handlebar clamp on a stem so that you can get your bar through there with scratching the bejeezus out of it. Saves the stem from unsightly gouges. Saves the flesh too by keeping you away from trying to spread the clamp with a screw-driver, which will inevitably slip and puncture you.

RUNNER UP - Dillon Ellefson
